Bangladesh’s virus death toll crosses 200, new cases 709

Seven more patients died of coronavirus and 709 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours as of Friday.

Additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Nasima Sultana made the disclosure at an online briefing on Friday.

She said as many as 206 people have died of coronavirus and a total of 13,134 cases have been confirmed so far.

Meanwhile, the government extended general holiday till 16 May to tackle coronavirus which has already claimed 186 lives.

Nasima Sultana said a total of 5,941 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Of them, 709 were diagnosed with coronavirus.

On the previous day, a total of 6,867 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Of them, 706 were diagnosed with coronavirus.

As many as 111,454 samples have been tested so far.

Bangladesh first reported death from coronavirus on 18 March while the first case was confirmed on 8 March.
